A core strategy that leverages technology to systematically uncover alpha opportunities in the China A-Share market by leveraging traditional financial data as well as alternative data sets. Onshore China equities represent a relatively young and highly liquid market, with low correlation to other markets.
Managed by the BlackRock Systematic Active (SAE) China team with Rui Zhao as the lead portfolio manager with over 15 years of industry experience. Leverages upon the broader SAE platform which boasts more than three decades of innovation in quantitative investing and over 120 dedicated investment professionals drawn from diverse backgrounds with expertise at tech firms, NASA, academia and more.
Targeting a beta of 1 and tracking error of 3-5%, the portfolio is style agnostic and aims to deliver all-weather type of returns via exposure to 150-400 onshore listed companies. The Fund has consistently outperformed its reference benchmark, MSCI China A onshore index over 3 year and 5 year periods.
Employing machine learning techniques, the Fund incorporates a blend of bottom up stock selection insights (Fundamental and Sentiment) and broader top-down thematic insights (Macro Themes) to generate alpha forecasts. The Portfolio is then optimised based on return, risk and trading costs. The Fund's utilisation of alternative data such as mobile app, consumer data and more to assess market sentiment is advantageous given the nature of the A-share market; retail dominated and consequently, often sentiment driven.
