Product

Provides exposure to global preferred and capital securities with a bias to high quality. The global preferred and capital securities market is a large and liquid universe with 1)potential alpha opportunities 2)higher income potential compared to long dated treasuries and investment grade corporate bonds and 3) diversification benefit due to its moderate correlation to other fixed income sectors and equities.

People

Managed by an experienced 7-men PM team with average industry experience of 29 years, and average firm and product experience of 20 years. Spectrum Asset Management, a wholly owned affiliate of Principal Global Investors and the manager for the Fund, was founded in 1987 specifically to manage preferred and capital securities and is a leading specialised manager of this asset class, both domestically and globally.

Performance

Tends to have a more conservative return profile due to its high quality bias, with a relatively controlled drawdown profile compared to peers.

Process

Co-portfolio managers have expertise in each sub-sector and have trading rights to drive relative value positions within each sub-sector. This process provides timeliness to capture opportunities as they arise.
