Product

A well-balanced portfolio of about 40 to 60 best idea stock names in the Emerging Markets (""EM""). Actively managed to allocate into the best prevailing opportunities across various countries and companies.

People

Lead PM Nicholas Field has been managing the strategy since inception, and has more than 25 years of EM investing experience. The Fund is co-led by Tom Wilson, Head of EM Equities, who has been working together with Nicholas on the Fund for over a decade. Leverage on Schroders' deep bench of EM Equities team, consisting of over 40 PMs and analysts specialising in Asia, Latin America, EMEA, and Frontier markets, who constantly supply ideas and analysis.

Performance

Demonstrated consistently attractive risk-adjusted returns compared to peers since inception in 2007. Has shown prudent risk management in difficult markets, while capturing upsides during more bullish environments.

Process

Marries top-down country analysis (which is especially more relevant for an EM strategy) and bottom-up stock picking to produce a well-balanced portfolio. Uses a proprietary quantitative model (deriving input from factors such as valuation, growth, currency/risk, and momentum) to produce country ranking and guide country allocation. Country model is updated monthly to ensure relevance. Stock analysis involves idea generation from many sources including an ongoing programme of company engagement, screening/searches by analysts, macroeconomic assessments, and Schroders' experienced team of portfolio managers.

Cost

Retail share class with 100% trailer fee rebated back to Endowus investors to achieve lower cost of access.

How it fits in a portfolio

Investors looking for a balanced EM portfolio with good risk-adjusted returns over the long run will find the Fund interesting. The Fund has historically displayed less growth characteristics compared to other EM Equity peers, and is suitable for investors with a preference for blend investing (middle ground between value and growth), which tends to display less volatility. Regardless, as the Fund focuses on EM which is deemed more risky than investing in developed markets, we recommend investors to invest in tandem with a broadly diversified investment portfolio.
