About the session

With the S&P 500 index continuing its dominance of global equity markets and clinching its best start to the year since 2019, sentiment has been increasingly divided among investors, moving between optimism about a sustained rally and concerns that the market is approaching a peak and “imminent” pullback. Investors are left concerned on how to think about their exposures and portfolio allocations.

Is now the right time to invest? Why should I own anything other than the S&P 500 in my portfolio? How do market events, such as the upcoming US elections, affect my portfolio and investments? What does financial science and data have to say about the current market environment relative to history and how can investors use that information to increase the odds of their long-term investing success?

About the speakers

Apollo Lupescu

Vice President

Dimensional Fund Advisors

Apollo Lupescu is a Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisors, where he started in 2004 after finishing his PhD in economics and finance at the University of California, Santa Barbara. During his tenure at the firm, Apollo has gained experience in a wide variety of practical subject matters. He was part of the Dimensional Investment Strategies group, worked directly with financial advisors in the Northeast area to assist in the development of their business, managed the internal Client Services team that provides broad analytical support, and then oversaw the firm’s national advisor retirement business. He is currently Dimensional’s “secretary of explaining stuff.” In this role, he frequently presents around the country and the world at financial advisor professional conferences and individual investor events.

Prior to joining Dimensional, Apollo had his own consulting firm, which provided services to the US Department of State and the White House on a variety of projects. His interests in finance and investments led him to teaching engagements at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition to his PhD from UCSB, Apollo has a BA from Michigan State University, where he competed in and coached water polo.

Yulin Liu

Investment Lead

Endowus

Yulin focuses on investment due diligence and portfolio construction, and coordinates with other departments on investment-related matters. She is a member of the Investment Committee and is passionate about making investing more accessible and easier for individuals.  Her most recent role was with AQR Capital Management, where she served major institutional investors across Asia in their investment and portfolio monitoring needs.  Yulin holds a Masters in Financial Analysis (Distinction) from London Business School, and a MEng in Engineering, Economics and Management (First Class Honours) from the University of Oxford.
