In this edition of the Fund Digest, we are expanding our fund offerings beyond HKD and USD to include CAD, EUR, and GBP, providing greater flexibility in managing foreign currency holdings.
Aligning assets with future financial liabilities—like overseas tuition or property payments—helps mitigate exchange rate risks and enhances predictability. With zero-fee currency conversions, investors can efficiently allocate capital with Endowus. Check out the full list of funds for selection on Endowus Fund Smart.

Managing currency exposure of your investment portfolios
At Endowus, we do not advocate taking directional currency bets, as attempting to predict foreign exchange movements introduces unnecessary risk.
A long-term study by Dimensional Fund Advisors analysing data from 1985 to 2019, confirms that monthly currency returns—whether for the Japanese yen or the British pound— “are largely unpredictable and not reliably different from zero on average”. So, trying to hedge based on forecasts doesn’t add value.
Therefore, currency selection for investments and hedging decisions should be driven by your financial goals and anticipated liabilities rather than speculative FX views. Proper alignment can enhance portfolio stability and safeguard purchasing power over time.
For Hong Kong-based investors who have HKD spending, debt obligations or other liabilities, they should consider matching assets (savings and investments) in HKD to minimise unnecessary FX exposure.
Conversely, if you have large or recurring expenses in foreign currencies, such as children’s overseas tuition or property mortgage abroad, you can consider aligning the investments with your anticipated spending to manage potential currency risk by matching assets and currencies to your future liabilities.
