Senior Engineering Manager

About the team

We have recently embarked on one of the most significant evolutions of our wealth platform since our inception and are excited about this opportunity to build a brand new & fundamentally differentiated offering in the wealth management landscape.

We are looking for someone with significant experience in designing & delivering multiple high impact products, to join us as a hands-on technical manager & lead the team that will own this new product offering.

Reporting into the CTO, this is a dual-hat role involving full engineering ownership & accountability for one of our core product offerings as well as location leadership responsibilities for our rapidly growing Hyderabad office.

About this role; responsibilities & ownership

• Lead the system design, development, deployment, monitoring, and production support for your product. We operate as full-stack teams with a “build it & run it” ownership mindset.
• Involved in the details with ~25-30% of the time spent in hands-on development.
• Work closely with Product, Design, Marketing, CX, Operations and other stakeholders to ensure iterative delivery of customer value.
• Shape both the short term product roadmap & the long term product vision.
• Demonstrate a strong product sense and be empathetic to clients' experiences of using the product.
• Drive continuous improvements in the security, scalability, stability, speed, & cost-effectiveness of our systems.
• Attract & hire the best talent that is aligned with our mission.
• Guide every member of the team to grow in capability & achieve their best through regular & direct feedback, goal-setting & career conversations.
• Continuously retrospect, refine & improve how the team operates & excels.

Requirements & qualifications

• Bachelors' or above in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of experience in building scalable backend services in a product company.
• 2+ in a people & technical leadership role, directly facing business counterparts.
• Strong mastery of Scala or Java and at least one other programming language (such as JavaScript, TypeScript, etc.)
• Strong team and project leadership; Self-driven with a strong sense of ownership.
• Strong experience with agile processes, automated testing, CI/CD, production error/metrics monitoring, cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of infrastructure (e.g. databases, message queues, containers, etc.)
• Comfortable with numbers and motivated by steep learning curves.
• While Scala expertise is not a prerequisite, willingness to quickly learn and master Scala is essential since all our core backend services are written in Scala.
  

Great to haves:

• Experience working in wealth management or investment domain.
• Exposure to CQRS / Event Sourcing patterns.
• Experience with Lagom/Akka frameworks for building microservices.
  

Our Tech Stack:

• Our backend services are written in Scala/Akka and the APIs are tested using Cucumber-Scala.
• We are heavy users of DDD, event sourcing, and CQRS.
• Our web app is in TypeScript/React and tested using Playwright. Our mobile app is in Dart/Flutter and tested using FlutterTest.
• We use Kafka for async communication between services. Cassandra is our transactional database & PostgreSQL is our read-side database. Our datalake is built using Spark/Athena.
• We are 100% cloud native and rely heavily on CI/CD & IaC.
