Programme
2023: A repeat of 2022 or something different?
1.25pm - 2.15pm
2022 was a tough market, with bond markets crashing to historic levels, and stocks slumping as the US Federal Reserve unleashed aggressive rate hikes to tamp down US inflation at a 40-year high.
How are investors to prepare for 2023? Should they be risk-on or risk-off? We kick off the Endowus 2023 Market Outlook session by taking stock of 2022, and how investors should be positioned this year.
Moderator: Samuel Rhee, Chairman and Chief Investment Officer, Endowus
- Christy Tan, Macro Strategist, Franklin Templeton
- Robert Wayne St Clair, Strategist, CIO Office, Fullerton Fund Management
- S K Selvan, Senior Director, Head of Curated Portfolios, Lion Global Investors

Will stocks roar back to life in 2023?
2.15pm - 3.00pm
With global equities falling in 2022, some market commentators have turned bearish on equities. But are stocks truly a dead story for investors in 2023? Is there still hope left in technology stocks and REITs — the former darlings of low-rate environments?
Top portfolio strategists will discuss and debate if investors are left to turn defensive or if opportunities are emerging for investors to capitalise on in 2023.
Moderator: Min Axthelm, Director of Investment Research, Endowus
- David Poh, Head of Investments and ESG Strategies, Amundi
- Benjamin Tai, Director, Global Real Asset Securities Group, BlackRock

Rising rates and seeking income in turbulent times
3.30pm - 4.10pm
Fixed income markets have had the worst year in 40 years, leaving investors to ask how they should be seeking out income amid stormy waters. The rising-rate environment has opened up a rush of interest in income-yielding instruments, from plain-vanilla government securities such as T-bills and SSBs, to cash management solutions.
Our panel of experts will tackle the big questions behind income generation in 2023, including the biggest question of 2023: Has the market bottomed and will this be the best year yet for bonds?
Moderator: Jamie Lee, Head of Financial Planning, Endowus
- Aninda Mitra, Head of Asia Macro and Investment Strategy, BNY Mellon
- Jonathan Liang, Head of Asia ex-Japan GFICC group investment specialist, JPMorgan Asset Management
- Abhijeet Neogy, Senior Vice President, Portfolio Manager, PIMCO
Is all the rage in alternatives and private markets overblown?*
4.10pm - 4.55pm
Investing into the private markets has offered some buffer against the pain from the public markets this year; the benefit comes in part from less frequent revaluations. Preqin has forecast that global alternatives assets will surpass US$23.3 trillion by end-2027, up from US$13.7 trillion as of end-2021.
With the public markets stung by Fed action, should investors take a close look at alternatives? Or is such optimism overblown? Learn about the alternatives space, and whether private market investments remain viable in turbulent times.
Moderator: Sean Wong, Head of Investments, Endowus
- Edward Moon, Head of Asia Pacific Global Wealth, Apollo Global Management
- Joshua Lewin, Associate Strategist, Bridgewater Associates
- Henry Chui, Head of Private Wealth, APAC, Partners Group
